Design Reactor ’08
May 17, 2008
Design Reactor has just launched a new website for itself, replacing the one I worked on last year. This time around it was designed by our wonderful Ivan Kandi.
Although I did build the homepage, my most prominent role in the project was tech leading two other engineers, Cooper Brislain and Hak Lao.
The project was given an insane deadline that gave us a little over a month to complete. I fought with the CEO over it, but he wouldn’t budge. Rumor has it that one of the executives had threatened to quit if we didn’t have it up in time. Regardless, I remained pessimistic about the launch date, given that last year’s took half a year to complete. (Much of that time had been spent waiting for content.)
Well, one way or another, we ended up hitting the deadline. It involved many late nights, and even one or two all-nighters, but we did it.
The end result isn’t something I’m proud of, though. We cut a few corners along the way, and the project ultimately drove two of us to quit our jobs (myself included). But hey, at least that aforementioned executive is still there!
